.com Domain – Complete Guide for Businesses in Romania 2026
How to choose between .com and .ro, what affects the price of a .com domain, how to register it and what happens if you forget to renew it.

Why a .com domain remains the number one choice in 2026
The .com extension is managed by Verisign and has over 150 million registered domains, according to the quarterly Domain Name Industry Brief reports. It is the extension people type by reflex after a company name.
For a company in Romania, .com makes sense especially if you also sell in other countries or if the name you want is already taken on .ro.
How much a .com domain costs in 2026 and what affects the price
The price of a .com has two parts. The first is the wholesale fee the registrar pays to Verisign. The second is the registrar’s margin. The wholesale fee can rise from one year to the next, within the limits of the agreement between Verisign and ICANN, so final prices can change as well.
The registration price and the renewal price differ at many registrars. Look at both. At HostON, the prices for .com and the other extensions are on the Domains page. Renewal is charged at the list price on the renewal date.
.com or .ro domain: which choice is better for your business
- .ro is managed by RoTLD (the .ro registry, part of ICI Bucharest). Google treats it as a signal that the website targets the audience in Romania. It is the natural choice if you sell only here.
- .com is not tied to a country. It suits brands that also sell outside Romania.
As for rankings, Google says the extension itself brings no advantage. Country-code extensions only help establish the target country (Google Search Central).
If you can, register both and redirect one to the other. That way nobody else takes them.
How to register a .com domain and what happens if you do not renew it
For a .com you need:
- the name you want, available (you check it on the Domains page);
- correct contact details for the registrant. The registrar may ask you to confirm your email address;
- payment for the chosen period (one year or more).
After registration, you point the domain to your hosting by changing the DNS servers. If you already have a web hosting plan at HostON, you add the domain in cPanel.
What happens on expiry: registrars usually keep the domain for a short period after the expiry date, during which you can renew it at the normal price. The length differs from one registrar to another. Then comes the 30-day redemption period (Redemption Grace Period), during which recovery costs much more. After that the domain is deleted and can be registered by anyone. Turn on automatic renewal and keep the email address in your client account up to date.
