On all hosting plans, cPanel issues a domain-validated certificate (AutoSSL) automatically for every domain and subdomain in the account and renews it before it expires. For blogs and showcase sites, the free SSL is enough.
Which type of certificate you need
All types encrypt the connection in the same way. What differs is what the certificate authority verifies before issuing the certificate and how many names it covers.
- DV
Domain validation (DV)
Only checks that you control the domain (by email, DNS or file). Usually issued within minutes. Suitable for brochure websites and blogs.
- OV
Organisation validation (OV)
The authority also verifies the company (name, address, legal existence). The company details appear in the certificate details. Issuance usually takes a few working days.
- EV
Extended validation (EV)
The most rigorous company verification. Current browsers no longer show the green bar, but the verified company details appear in the certificate details. Issuance usually takes a few working days.
- Wildcard
Wildcard
Covers the domain and all subdomains at one level (*.your-domain.ro), with a single certificate. Available as DV and OV.

Prices are per year, as in the my.hoston.ro cart. The certificate is issued after the validation required by the certificate authority.

When a paid certificate is worth it
The free certificate protects the connection just as well. An OV or EV certificate adds verification of the company by a certificate authority, useful for shops, platforms with customer accounts, or requirements in contracts and audits. A Wildcard simplifies things when you have many subdomains.

After ordering you choose the domain validation method. For OV and EV the authority contacts you to verify the company. Once the certificate is issued, we install it on HostON hosting or make it available to you for your own server.

Prices
How our prices work
The prices on the site are the ones in the client area, set in euro. With annual payment you pay 10% less. On web hosting, WordPress and eCommerce, new customers get 25% off the first invoice with the code HOSTON25. The renewal price is the list price on the renewal date; the amount in lei is calculated at the BNR exchange rate. On VPS, new customers get 15% off the first invoice with the code VPS15, once.

The encryption is the same. The free certificate (AutoSSL) validates only the domain and renews automatically. Paid certificates can also validate the company (OV, EV), can cover all subdomains (Wildcard) and are issued by authorities such as DigiCert or GeoTrust.
Payments require HTTPS, which you also have with the free certificate. An OV or EV certificate is useful if you want your company details to be verified by a certificate authority or if a partner requires it.
DV certificates are usually issued within minutes of domain validation. For OV and EV, company verification usually takes a few working days, depending on the documents the authority requires.
The main domain and all subdomains at one level, for example shop.domain.ro and blog.domain.ro. It does not cover subdomains at two levels (a.b.domain.ro).
The free certificate, yes. Paid ones we install on HostON hosting after issuance; if your website is with another provider, you receive the certificate and install it on your own server.
